Greatness is not something that someone can or will hand you, rather, it is something that has to come from within you. No one is ever born as a natural talent, whether that be in sports, music, art or any other area. Some people might appear to be naturally born talents, but what you miss is the amount of work they have put in behind the scenes. Rather, to become an expert in a field it is going to depend on the amount of time you spend training or studying and the way in which you train or study.
This is where it becomes tricky. Just because you show up to practice every day or every week does not mean you are going to become great. Your coach can give you all the tools in the world to help you improve and learn, but they can’t force you to want to get better. That desire must come from you yourself.
It is the job of the coach to make things interesting and ensure that players are having fun and improving. But the desire to master a skill or become an expert in a field is not something that the coach will be able to give you. They can provide you with passion and desire which can help drive the desire to become an expert but that fire to achieve greatness can only come from within you. With that, only you can fan that flame and make it grow.
Desire is born from within. Others will acknowledge your greatness once you have achieved it, but no one will give it to you. It is also important to note though, that once you achieve greatness it is important to continue working as others will be working equally as hard to surpass you.
